aspect ratio

one of my favorite paintings ive ever made. the advent of tiktok and short-form content has changed a lot of how people interact with social media and the internet. and especially how new media is made. songs are only fleshed out in their hooks to increase virality, long-form youtube videos are re-uploaded to instagram reels with epilepsy-inducing captions, and more and more pictures are taken in portrait (not landscape). and this was basically an exploration of that. i wanted to make the viewer uncomfortable by forcing the phone to be perpendicular to the long side of the canvas.

this was a painting i did for an old coworker of mine as a favor, she's a huge Karol G fan. i wish i had a picture of the finished thing. the entire time i was waiting to give it to her i kept nitpicking out minor flaws but realized i was overthinking when i saw her reaction and she ended up loving it :) its probably one of my first official "commission" type art interactions even though i didn't charge her or anything.
