The Mask by Connor O'Malley

one of the few entries on here that isn't a physical form of art, but it's one of my favorite short films. it's such an effortlessly funny yet realistic portrayal of how failed actors/comedians/internet personalities are often preyed upon by conspiracy theorists and become entrenched in the alt-right. it manages to use the 'Unfriended' technique of using screen recordings of internet content to tell the narrative while still actually keeping you invested in the story. and as an aside: Eric Rahill, the guy who plays the crazy conspiracy theorist roommate, is a fucking god at playing his character. its like he ripped him straight from Info Wars.

Can I Please Eat In The Computer Room Tonight? by Nicole Nikolich

this piece is one of my favorite examples of Post-Internet art, i.e. art that are about the internet and internet culture (which is probably my favorite style/era of art ever, and some of my works like aspect ratio are explicitly derived from the same ideas). not only do i appreciate the ungodly amount of time i can only imagine went into this, but i also love the nods to the early-era internet. my personal favorite (not in this image) being the sims gameplay on the left-hand side of the installation.

The Morning Visitor by Dino Buzzati

this is one of the most raw and direct representations of being taken advantage of that i'd ever seen. i found out about it through one of the worst ways though (internet drama). which if you truly care to read about, you can read an explanation i found on reddit. but regardless, this painting is one of my favorites because it really puts that feeling of assault into words.

this comic is one of my favorites, because it gives words to a wider phenomenon that i notice in a lot of ways. i notice it when watching a "le EPIC conserative OWNS a whining LIBERAL," where there's a false assumption of correct and goodness just because they're more cordial. i notice it when my mom would use my anger and hysterics as proof that i was the crazy one. it gives me hope for a justice that doesn't need to go through laws and niceties, where anger isn't just "liberal emotionality."

"Fish Food" by Shaky Fingers

i found this painting on tumblr while going through the #wild waves tag. which, if you don't live in western washington, is one of the most popular theme parks in the area. the painting is an abstract representation of the fish in the giant pond of the center of the park. there's a little row of feeders in front of the fence that you can pay 25¢ to get these little fish food pelets that you can throw to the fish. and when they see you hold your hand, they all come to the surface and try and catch the food. ive been to this exact spot dozens of times. me and my brother would always ask our parents for quarters to feed the fish. we would always get mad at the ducks because they'd always steal them from the fish. the painting brings about such a beautiful nostalgia, and it makes me so happy every time i see it.
