the archives was created on 9 August 2023 in my childhood room next to the garage. i had just seen this post on tumblr and previously dabbled in html briefly for a high school world history class, but it was too hard and i didn't have a lot of time so i scrapped the idea. but i never forgot about html.
the site had humble beginnings (to say the least).
i had essentially zero coding experience at this point, so the only layouts i knew how to code were 2-columns stolen from w3schools.

this was the beginning of the sidebar, the button wall, AND my flags and all the other widgets.
meet mini-caesthoffe, the defacto mascot of the archives. it's a pixelation of a squished photo of me that i use in everything from the me.html page to the caesthoffe dot neocities dot com buttons to the favicon. even though i never used the older one here, i figured you all should know that it's actually a remake of an older photo of myself when i had my kurt cobain hair.
when i was a wee closeted member of Girl Scouts of America (pre-high school) i had a friend in a sister troop who was a furry. and she showed me an anthropomorphic scaley species that she made. and i was so inspired, i created my own furry species of came-alive stuffed cats called "caesthoffe." the -aesth is obviously derivative of aesthetic, and -offe means fake (or at least i was under the assumption at the time, i have not been able to find proof of this at all) i.e. fake beauty i.e. plushies.
there did!! unfortunately it became too much of a hassle to update the code every single time i made an update so now i just post about updates on my neocities wall. below is an archive of what the old update log looked like.
