back to home...
i am of the opinion that technology has only gotten worse and worse throughout it's existence. aux cords that used to last for years now barely last a month before breaking and fraying. modern technology that tries to emulate older tech (like modern discmen and record players) can't replicate it's lifespan or quality. so a lot of my technology is outdated and (some would say) obsolete. but i would disagree. in a world where spotify underpays its artists, funds AI military projects, and contuinually locks music that you DON'T OWN behind an ever increasing paywall, a stereo and some CDs or an ipod and some .mp3s are a great act of defiance. in a world where nintendo is continually showing its greed to consumers and TVs are filled with more and more bloat, hand-me-downs are defiance. in a world where Apple continues to slow down old technology and argue against the right-to-repair, a refurbished phone is defiance. and in a world where sustainable practices are being commercialized in the same way that consumerism is, using your electronics and getting them fixed until they finally break for good is defiance.
List of Technology I Own
- 2005 Apple iPod Mini (2nd Generation) - a gift from my dad since he had a slightly older model, a lot of the music on it is also from my dad
- 2002 RCA RP2403 Personal CD Player with 45-Second ESPX - bought it secondhand on ebay, need to get an aux cord so i can use it again
- Skullcandy Hesh 2 Bluetooth Wireless Headphones, Gray/Hot Lime - had them since i was 15 years old, the right earphone doesn't work anymore and i've already replaced the ear muffs on it once. i'm gonna get it repaired, but if nothing can be done 'i'm gonna use them until they break
- Classic Glossy Black Nintendo 3DS - a hand me down from my dad, i used to let my little brother use it all the time when i still lived at home
- Classic Silver Nintendo DS - need to bring this to a repair tech, the charging port is broken
- T-Mobile REVVL 4+ - my most-recent phone besides the one i use now
- Gold LG G5 - my second-most-recent phone
- Wacom Intuos Pen Tablet Small - a gift from my granparents, also need to bring it to a repair place
- White Patrionics 2-USB Power Bank - old and slow, but reliable in a pinch
- Behringer U-Phoria UM2 Audio Interface - bought it secondhand from Guitar Center to record my guitar onto my shitty chromebook
- VIZIO 32-inch 1080i LCD HDTV - hand-me-down from my family since they have a new one
- Acer Chromebook 14 - a gift from my grandparents right before my first day of high school. i didn't even have to check out a school issued laptop because of it. even though it wasn't my first choice, i'm not gonna get rid of it until it fully breaks. de-chromifying my life will be a lot easier when that day occurs though.
