Saw is a horror franchise centered around the activities of the elusive Jigsaw; a serial killer who puts his subjects into "traps" where they are mutilated, maimed, and often murdered in a twisted attempt to make them appreciate life. Saw is often called a "torture porn" or "gorno" due to it's graphic visuals. Along with the blood and gore, Saw is also known for it's twist endings and intertwined plot lines.
The first movie of the series, Saw (2004), was produced on a budget of only around $1 million. Nearly the entire movie takes place in a single room, and (despite the series later being known for it's gritty and detailed depictions of torture) most of the violence takes place off screen. Therefore reducing the amount of practical effects needed.
